Submitted by Wolf Gang member “A.A.”

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet.  He held up a sign which said, “I am blind, please help.” There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were.  The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?”

The man said, “I only wrote the truth.  I said what you said but in a different way.”

What he had written was: “Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.”

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind.  The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind.  Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Moral of the Story:  Be thankful for what you have.  Think differently and positively.

Live life with no excuses and love with no regrets.
When life gives you 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile.
Face your past without regret.
Handle your present with confidence.
Prepare for the future without fear.
Keep the faith and drop the fear.

By Rick Phillips, Heart at Work

I do a lot of management training each year for the Circle K Corporation, a national chain of convenience stores. Among the topics we address in our seminars is the retention of quality employees – a real challenge to managers when you consider the pay scale in the service industry. During these discussions, I ask the participants,

“What has caused you to stay long enough to become a manager?” Some time back a new manager took the question and slowly, with her voice almost breaking, said, “It was a $19 baseball glove.”

Cynthia told the group that she originally took a Circle K clerk job as an interim position while she looked for something better. On her second or third day behind the counter, she received a phone call from her nine-year old son, Jessie. He needed a baseball glove for Little League. She explained that as a single mother, money was very tight, and her first check would have to go for paying bills. Perhaps she could buy his baseball glove with her second or third check.

When Cynthia arrived for work the next morning, Patricia, the store manager, asked her to come to the small room in back of the store that served as an office. Cynthia wondered if she had done something wrong or left some part of her job incomplete from the day before. She was concerned and confused.

Patricia handed her a box. “I overheard you talking to your son yesterday,” she said, “and I know that it is hard to explain things to kids. This is a baseball glove for Jessie because he may not understand how important he is, even though you have to pay bills before you can buy gloves. You know we can’t pay good people like you as much as we would like to; but we do care, and I want you to know you are important to us.”

The thoughtfulness, empathy and love of this convenience store manager demonstrates vividly that people remember more how much an employer cares than how much the employer pays. An important lesson for the price of a Little League baseball glove.

Friendship is a quiet walk in the park with the one you trust
Love is when you feel like you are the only two around

Friendship is when they gaze into your eyes and you know they care
Love is when they gaze into your eyes and it warms your heart

Friendship is being close even when you are far apart
Love is when you can still feel their hand on your heart when they are not near

Friendship is hoping that they experience the very best
Love is when you bring them the very best

Friendship occupies your mind
Love occupies your soul

Friendship is knowing that you will always try to be there when in need
Love is when you will give up everything to be at their side

Friendship is a warm smile in the winter
Love is a warming touch that sends a pulse through your heart

Love is a beautiful smile to which nothing compares
A tender laugh, which opens your heart
A single touch that melts away your fears
A smell that reminds you of the tenderness of heaven
A voice that reminds you of the innocence of youth

Friendship can survive without love
Love cannot live without friendship

From the Blackberry…I know I shouldn’t have taken video from the Darius Rucker show, but ya know, it was worth it.  Now, I’ve seen my fair share of concerts, and this one, by far, was off the hook!  Look out, cause pics are coming soon!

An old poem describes a woman walking through a meadow, meditating on nature. While strolling about, she came upon a field of golden pumpkins. In the corner of the field stood a majestic, huge oak tree. She sat under the oak tree musing on the strange twists in nature which put tiny acorns on huge branches and huge pumpkins on tiny vines. She thought to herself, “God blundered with Creation! He should have put the small acorns on the tiny vines and the large pumpkins on the huge branches.” Nodding off, the woman stretched out under the oak tree for a nap. A few minutes after falling asleep she was awakened by a tiny acorn bouncing off her nose. Chuckling to herself, she rubbed her nose and thought, “Maybe God was right after all!”

clayflairFirst I want to preface this letter stating that I understand that you are an international superstar, and your time is very valuable.  With that said, I understand that you will be in Winston-Salem at the Dixie Classic Fair with the North Carolina Education Lottery.  However, I want to formally invite you to be a part of my radio broadcast sometime during your stay here in the Triad.  Certainly, I will be happy if you simply call the station and talk about your new ‘Woooo’ tickets, however, I would be completely ecstatic if you could be here in the flesh.

I’ve worked very hard creating a detailed list with all of the reasons why you, Ric Flair, the Nature Boy should be live in studio with me, The Prime Minister of Twang:

1.) I will allow you to put me in a figure-four leglock, headlock, beat me with a ladder or folding chair (your choice) and film it for WolfTV.

2.) My intern will drive to your home in Charlotte and fold your laundry for a week, and take your bedazzled robes to the dry cleaner.

3.) I will treat you to a snack of your choice from the station’s vending machine.

and finally,

4.) I will replace The Wolf’s trademark ‘Howl’ with your trademark ‘Woooo’ for an hour.

Ric, think about it.  I know that you can take more punishment than anyone in the business, and that every woman wants to be with you and every man wants to be like you…I got it.  However, if you can spare 15-20 minutes for my radio program, I’d be more than appreciative.

The distance between the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds and the Worldwide Headquarters of The All New 93.1 The Wolf is 16.8 Miles.  See the directions below:

Thank you for your consideration.  I will begin practicing how to take a hit like a man just in case you decide to stop by, and take me up on the first offer.

Best,

Clay JD Walker – 93.1 The Wolf

Nothing gets me going quite like the new fall TV season! In fact, I think I’m gonna have to get a second Tivo just to record everything. Seriously. But tonight’s a night I’ve waited for, well, since May. Even though we kind of know what’s going to happen (George dies, Izzy doesn’t), how ’bout we sneak a peek at tonight’s premiere?  You can catch it at 9pm on ABC 45.
