For the first time in years, I’m gonna get a refund!

It’s been SO LONG since I’ve had a tax refund, I don’t know what to do with the extra $. Put it away for a rainy day? Give it to charity? Be selfish?

Hawaii is calling — Hula Girls, Hot Bikinis, Topless Volleyball, Sandcastles…Alohawww!

I wonder they have Topless Putt-Putt in Hawaii. Or, as we call it back home, “PASTURE POOL?”

Wonder what time high tide rolls in. It does only happen once, right?

I can just picture myself sitting in the white sand, a warm breeze on my skin, and a chest full of ice-cold “PBR”s.

Wait a minute, self…WAKE UP! $620 will not get me that far.

Seriously, if you are getting a refund, how do YOU plan to spend it?

Leave a comment and tell me!

Have you ever known, worked with, or had a family member like this?

No matter what praise you give this person, it’s not enough to feed their ego. Their need to be told, “Great job!” or “You’re the best!” is practically deafening.

We will call this friend or relative, ummmm, “Mike.”

Mike is a good guy at heart. He has a great family, a great job, and owns a home…but deep down, Mike is as EMPTY as a tin can.

Case in point: I visited Mike and the kids last week. I asked him how his job was going (we all know the economy sucks).

For the next two hours, Mike couldn’t stop saying, “I.”

Mike went on and on: “I bought this,” “I have this,” and “I can do this.” Keep in mind that Mike is a grown man!

He never did answer my simple question: Hey, how’s work?

You play Xbox? Mike plays better than you.

You go to Myrtle Beach? He can’t help himself! Mike has to point out that he stays in a better area than you do.

Mom always said these types are insecure and have low self-esteem. But, BOY, are they frustrating to be around?!

How do I deal with this?

Do you know someone like this, and how do you handle it?

HELP!

I just had to get this off my chest…..

This is what she has to say…
“I’m excited about being with the new record label,” she says. “I’m excited about this new album. I’m excited where I am in my life, my age, that radio is still playing my music and that fans still want to hear my music and see me perform. I’m very grateful, appreciative and blessed.”

GREENSBORO — When Cameron Paschall arrived at The Women’s Hospital at 6 a.m. Thursday, she was sure she’d have a New Year’s Eve baby.

But Walker Linton Paschall had other plans. He entered the world at 1:01 a.m. Friday, becoming the first baby of the new year born at the hospital.

Walker isn’t the first in his family to make such a momentous entry.

His maternal grandmother was the first baby born in Morganton in 1940, Cameron Paschall said.

“We have a family tradition now. We have another New Year’s baby,” she said.

Walker weighed 9 pounds, 7 ounces and was delivered by cesarean section to Cameron, 32, and her husband Stephen Paschall of Greensboro.

Walker was due Dec. 27. Cameron said she had skipped the chapter in her pregnancy book about cesareans.

Having arrived at the hospital at the crack of dawn, Cameron thought for sure Walker would arrive Thursday.

“Seemed like plenty of time to me,” she said. “Apparently, it was not.”

Walker dozed peacefully next to his mother’s bed on Friday afternoon, unaware of his parents’ frequent loving gazes. Stephen Paschall, who works in the News & Record’s interactive department, had all his technological gadgets nearby to record the special moments. A Flip camera captured Walker’s frowns during his first bath, and Paschall’s laptop was used to quickly get the photos on Facebook.

Walker is the first child for the Paschalls, who have been married eight years. The Paschalls knew they were having a boy, but both said they didn’t have a preference.

They also agree on one other thing: Walker will likely have a little brother or sister
